Eureka Outdoor Quilt Show

Eureka held its 20th outdoor quilt show on Saturday, August 2, featuring 410 large quilts, 60 miniature quilts, and 15 Quilts for Heroes. Begun in 2005, the show is an annual summer attraction that draws hundreds of people to Eureka for the day. Quilts are hung around the Historical Village and along Dewey Avenue, inviting a stroll to see the colorful display of quilting talent.
The forecast, and actual occurrence, of rain didn't deter the volunteers or quilt enthusiasts. Quilts subject to rain were covered with plastic and able to be viewed and enjoyed. The rain let up in the afternoon and was actually pleasant for an afternoon stroll among the quilts.
As in years past, a special exhibit of Quilts for Heroes was also on display at the Veterans Memorial Park. Quilts For Heroes is a nonprofit organization created for the purpose of providing comfort quilts for military veterans.
The quilt show is held the first Saturday in August every year. Next year's show will be held Saturday, August 1.
