The Kootenai RC Racers held their 8th annual Hot August Showdown remote control car races over the weekend, July 31-August 2, at their new track recently named Cabinet Mountain RC Raceway in the Port Authority complex. There were 66 entries this year as the event continues to grow, and the new track, designed by Chad Dodd, provided an awesome venue for this year’s races.
As with all events this year, the Covid-19 pandemic presented a challenge, but organizers stressed the importance of following health and safety guidelines and were able to have a successful, safe and fun weekend. Participants came from around the Pacific Northwest.
The weather also presented a challenge with official National Weather Service recorded daytime temperatures reaching into the low to mid 90s, although it no doubt felt more like 100° on the track. It was hot!
Hot August Showdown is hosted by Kootenai RC Racers and Scheer Bros. Hobbies, and this year had numerous industry and local sponsors. Combined with the help of a number of club and other volunteers, the event is an annual family-friendly weekend of camaraderie and a shared love of remote control racing.
