Celebrating the New Year Libby Polar Bears New Year Plunge At Riverfront Park January 2, 2019 The Libby Polar Bears held their New Year plunge on Sunday, December 30, at Libby's Riverfront Park. The air temperature measured 40.5° while the water temperature was slightly "warmer" at 42.3°. It was a festive plunge with several people, including two from the Libby High School cross-country team, their coach, and assorted family members taking the plunge along with Jamie Brebner, Kyle Haugland, Alan Gerstenecker and Bella, and regulars Steve Sonju and Polar Bear Rick Klin. Several spectators were on hand to witness the craziness. Polar Bear Rick and Bella the chocolate lab were the only two to actually enjoy the plunge, but kudos to all who braved the chilly conditions to celebrate the new year in a most unusual way.
