The Kootenai Highlanders held their sixth annual Highland Gathering over the weekend, July 20-22, at the River Bend along the scenic Kootenai River. The event celebrates Celtic culture and features traditional games sanctioned by the Scottish American Athletic Association, as well as pipers, drummers, dancers, clans in traditional dress, music, food, and vendors.
The Montana Highlanders Association Bagpipe Band from Kalispell was in attendance to lend an authentic musical backdrop for the event, as was the Broken Whistle band from Spokane. Lake City Highland Dance members from Coeur d' Alene and Isabel McAleer from Canada performed traditional dance.
Angie McLaury, Tammy Blackburn and Dee Teske along with numerous volunteers are credited with organizing the Gathering, a tradition of competition, friendship and comradery.
