Libby Polar Bears New Year Plunge
Held December 31 at Riverfront Park
January 3, 2018
The Libby Polar Bears held their New Year Plunge on Sunday, December 31, at Riverfront Park in Libby. The air temperature was 21.5° with fresh snow on the ground.
Four intrepid polar bears dipped in the Kootenai River's 40° water. Alan Gerstenecker, Zach Sherbo and Leta Wicka took the plunge along with longtime Polar Bear Rick Klin.
Overseeing the event were several David Thompson Search and Rescue volunteers on hand for safety assurance (thank you, DTSR!). One thing about polar bear plunges...the event doesn't last long.
