West Fork Fire

The West Fork Fire on the Kootenai National Forest was started by lightning the morning of August 30. As of Saturday afternoon, September 2, the fire had grown to 900 acres with an impressive display of smoke. The fire is located five miles north of Kootenai River Road, in the Quartz Creek/Bobtail Ridge area. An area closure order has been instituted for public safety and fire fighting efforts. J. Neils Park is the staging area for equipment.
