Fall Preparations
September 7, 2016
There's a decided nip in the air with September's arrival and that means it's time to think about the approaching winter months. Squirrels are taking note and gathering and caching cones, so that seeds are available to them through the winter. A walk in the woods will likely provide glimpses of cones scattered most everywhere. Look up and you'll see a heavy cone crop in fir trees this year, possibly due to the trees being stressed by drought and last November's wind storm weakening roots, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
