Heavy rain causes flooding around NW Montana
State of Emergency declared in Lincoln County
by LibbyMT.com
December 11, 2015

Late Wednesday (Dec. 9th), Libby Mayor Doug Roll and the Lincoln County Commission declared a state of emergency after two days of rain and melting snow caused flooding near Libby and Troy. Many area streams are at or over flood level, including the Fisher River, Libby Creek, Granite Creek and Yaak Creek.

Reports of damage include flooding in several homes along Callahan Creek near Troy, and flooding, undermining or washing away of roads in several locations near Troy and Libby. The emergency declaration frees up access to emergency funding from the state. The public is asked to stay away from Trainer Creek, which ends at Libby Creek due to high water levels and debris in the road. There are reports that about 300 feet of Troy’s St. Regis Road has been washed out as well as part of Granite Creek Road in Libby, and Callahan Creek in Troy was reportedly nearly up to the bridge on Wednesday with extremely fast moving water with ice chunks and logs being carried down with the fast moving flow. There are reports of minor wash-outs near Keeler Creek and Lake Creek.

The Lincoln County Office of Emergency Management is making sandbags available to the public at Pioneer Park in Libby, at the Libby City Shop, and the County Road Shop in Troy.

The forecast is for rain and snow showers to continue for the rest of the week.
