Open House on Fishing Regulations in Libby May 13

Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Region 1, will host a public open house on fishing regulations on Wednesday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m., in the Ponderosa Room at City Hall in Libby. At the meeting, FWP will provide information on the 2016 -2019 fishing regulations and gather ideas from the public. Every four years, FWP does a comprehensive review of Montanas fishing regulations. This public scoping is part of this process.
Anglers are invited to provide ideas and review potential changes identified by FWP on fishing regulations for the 2016-2019 period. The information brochure and comment box on proposed fishing regulations can be viewed on the FWP website at: http://fwp.mt.gov/fishing/publicComments/2015/2016_19fishingRegs.html. Anglers can comment online or attend the open house and submit written comments there.
Proposals that would apply to the entire Western Fishing district include: Lowering the burbot standard harvest limit Increasing the lake trout standard harvest limit Changing Cutthroat Trout standard harvest limit to include some fish larger than 10 inches Specific fishing regulations proposals for northwest Montana Region 1 include: Applying more angling restrictions at bull trout spawner staging locations near tributary mouths of the Kootenai and Swan river systems Standardizing stream angling closures in bull trout streams in the Kootenai drainage Changing cutthroat trout regulations in the Flathead River sloughs to agree with those in the Flathead River Changing bass regulations in the Flathead River to match more restrictive regulations in Flathead River Sloughs Applying size limits on yellow perch in Flathead Lake, Smith Lake, and Lower Stillwater Lake Allowing bull trout harvest again on Lake Koocanusa Expanding rainbow trout harvest at Frank Lake and Loon Lake (Ferndale) Increasing the northern pike harvest limit at Smith Lake Removing the brown trout limit in Lake Creek Removing the brown trout limit in portions of the Kootenai River Applying same seasonal closures to Noxon and Cabinet Gorge Reservoirs Bringing Lake Mary Ronan fishing closures into agreement with other region lakes
