Pileated Woodpecker

This Pileated Woodpecker was seen recently feeding on
chokecherries in Fireman's Park. Year-round residents of
western Montana, they feed on ants and beetles found in
live and dead trees and fruit when available. This bird is
a male, as evidenced by the red slash extending from the
bill.
