Libby Polar Bears New Year Plunge
January 1, 2014
The Libby Polar Bears celebrated the New Year with a plunge in the Kootenai River Sunday afternoon. The plunge took place at the Riverfront Park boat ramp, with six hardy souls taking the dip. As always, Polar Bear Rick Klin, who recently celebrated his 71st birthday, oversaw and encouraged each swimmer. Others taking the plunge were Steve Sonju, Kelsey Klin, Cameron Burkes, Trina Slinkard and Cordelle Slinkard.
Members of David Thompson Search and Rescue were also in attendance to provide a measure of safety.
The water temperature was 41 degrees with an air temperature of 32 degrees. A warm fire, warm drinks, and snacks were available.
Congratulations to Libby's New Year Polar Bears!
