US2 in Troy was closed due to a structure fire Thursday morning (Dec. 12th) about 5:30 am. Traffic was reduced to one lane moving through the incident in the vicinity of the fire at Pine Tree Plaza near mile marker 14 on US2 at the east end of the city of Troy.

There was smoke and intermittent fog in the area causing reduced visibility and the roads were wet with scattered slush.

The Pine Tree Plaza apartment building was destroyed and at least one man, former firefighter Eric Howe, suffered burns while rescuing his girlfriend and their three-year-old son.

Howe reportedly suffered burns on his head and back and was taken a burn center in Utah for treatment.

Donations for the families in need because of the fire can be dropped off at Troy Community Baptist or call Nicole Heyne at 1-307-680-9395. The Troy Community Baptist Church is assisting with breakfast, lunch and dinner, so any donations could be dropped off there as well.

The details of the fire have not been released by the Troy Fire Department.

Highway 2 reopened at 3PM Thursday.
