Heritage Museum Opening 2013
June 2, 2013
The Heritage Museum opened for the season Saturday, with a variety of exhibits and activities for the entire family. A beautiful, warm day made the outdoor exhibits and demonstrations popular, and the indoor presentations and exhibits were crowd-pleasing as well.
A special Humanities Montana Speakers Bureau program, "A Visit with Teddy Roosevelt" with Arch Ellwein, was a featured presentation of opening day this year.
Other attractions included operating mining equipment, a display by the Kootenai Muzzleloaders, a rope-making demonstration by Charles Robbins, a bear display from MFWP, gold panning, the Lincoln County Amateur Radio Group demonstrating ham radio and Morse code, square dancing by the Libby Spinning Squares, a sock hop in the restored Swamp Creek community hall, the Libby Miner Print Shop printing press in operation, a presentation by Jeff Gruber on Libby's sawmill and stud mill over several decades, a documentary of David Thompson by George Sibley, a Montana National Guard photography exhibit, artwork by the Libby Fine Arts Group, and a restored 1946 Buffalo fire truck, Hyster lumber carrier and 1926 Model T on display, as well as the Shay Locomotive undergoing restoration.
