The Libby rabies clinic will be held this year from May 6th to May 10th to coincide with National Pet Week. Local veterinarians will be conducting the clinic, an annual springtime event in Libby for over 30 years.

Rabies remains a major concern of public health officials. Northwest Montana isn't particularly plagued with rabies, but almost all warm-blooded species of animals can become infected with the virus. With virus reservoirs in wildlife populations, immunization of pets serves to create an immune barrier between wildlife and humans. Community-wide vaccination of pets is the most important means of preventing exposure of people to this deadly disease.

The week-long clinic makes it essential to call for an appointment before coming. Vaccination is by appointment only. Rabies vaccinations will be given Monday through Friday. The vaccination will cost $9.00. Pets must be healthy and at least four months of age. There is also a rabies vaccine approved for pet ferrets.

Call your local veterinarian for an appointment or any questions about your pet’s eligibility or current vaccination status.
