The Libby Polar Bear Club, led by 70-year-old president Rick Klin, held its New Year plunge in the Kootenai River Sunday afternoon under a gray sky and 31-degree air temperature. The Kootenai was running at a warmer 42 degrees. Thirteen swimmers turned out for the event, dipping into the Kootenai at the city boat ramp at Riverfront Park. Swimmers were met with a warm fire, hot chocolate and hot apple cider, doughnuts and plenty of spectators to cheer them on as they celebrated the new year with a quick and chilly plunge. Congratulations to all who met the challenge!
