Seventy-two walkers, runners, and horseback riders clad in pink shirts, shoes, coats, tu-tus, strollers, and boo-bee costumes complete with capes, braved chilly temperatures to participate in the 4th Annual Paint It Pink (PIP) 5K/10K Fun Run for Early Detection on Saturday, October 6.
The PIP run, sponsored by Glacier Bank and St. John's Lutheran Hospital, is part of a month long effort to raise funds and awareness for the early detection of breast cancer. All run and fundraising proceeds go to provide area uninsured and underinsured women with free mammograms.
According to Jill Beach, Run Coordinator, the race was born out of the desire to raise even more awareness about the importance of mammograms.
The Paint it Pink Fun Run raised $1,428.00. Events celebrating Paint It Pink for Early Detection for the rest of the month are Women's educational talks at the Montana Athletic Club, a ZUMBAŽ PIP Party the 19th, and a community wide picture in front of St. John's Lutheran Hospital on the 26th. You can stop by Hava Java or Copper Mountain Coffee for your PIP mug, drop in to Flathead Valley Community College Libby Campus for your PIP bracelet, or schedule a PIP Photo Shoot with Libby Creek Photography. For more information about PIP events or to make a donation, please call KC Hoyer at St John's, 406-283-7140 or Jill Beach at Glacier Bank, 406-293-4109. _______________________________________
