According to the Lincoln County Sheriff, about a dozen sticks of severely deteriorated explosive dated 1948 was found in an attic of an unused outbuilding on the old Rosenquist Ranch south of town behind the Western Montana Mental Health Center. An Environmental Restoration (ER) contract worker conducting Libby amphibole asbestos cleanup recognized the dynamite box.
It was confirmed an amount of the deteriorated dynamite had escaped containment within the box and remained in the attic mixed in with vermiculite and other attic debris.
The Missoula City County Bomb Team was contacted and detonated the charges.
A spray of water was used for suppression of any vermiculite disturbance that might result. ______________________________________________
