The driver of the commercial motor vehicle involved in the fatal crash Friday has been identified as Maurice F. Egan, 49 years old, from the Eureka/Rexford area.
According to Montana Highway Patrol Detachment Commander Sgt. Duane Bowers, Egan was driving a 2013 Caterpillar Truck owned by Lincoln County Refuse and was operating out of the Eureka Landfill. The semi tractor-trailer was fully loaded with a 25 foot dumpster and was towing another 25 foot dumpster on a full trailer. Both dumpsters were loaded with garbage from the refuse site. For unknown reasons, the vehicle slowly and gradually drifted off the right side of the roadway. Egan over-corrected the steering back to the left which caused the fully loaded trailer to tip over and separate from the towing unit. The trailer tipped over onto its side and dumped its entire load of cargo onto the roadway which completely blocked both lanes of travel.
The accident closed Highway 37 for five hours. The State Dept. of Transportation re-routed traffic north and south traffic using the Jennings Haul Road. ______________________________________________
