Libby Logger Days 2012
June 27, 2012
Another successful Logger Days was held over the weekend, courtesy of countless volunteer hours supplied by members of the Kootenai Kiwanis and numerous other community members and businesses.
The four-day event featured a kids' water fight, boxing smoker and live music by the Copper Mountain Band on Thursday; kids' logging events, Bull of the Woods, Queen coronation, live music and planned fireworks on Friday; a fun run, parade, adult logging events, lawnmower races and live music on Saturday; and a softball tournament, kids' sawdust dig and ATV raffle on Sunday.
A carnival with rides and games, food booths and vendors' booths were open all four days.
Paige Bothman was crowned Logger Days Queen Friday evening, selling the most Logger Days buttons for admission into the events. Raina Rowberry, Hannah Payne and Hailey Bowe were the other Queen candidates. Patrick Valentine was the sole King candidate, but was unavailable for the coronation due to work obligations.
And Saturday's hot topic? The "ginormous" wind/rain/hail storm that hit Libby Saturday afternoon, soaking everything in its path. The puddles alone that were left behind were impressive, flooding the parking lot, bandstand area, and arena. Loggers are a stalwart bunch, however, and logging events continued in the arena as soon as the storm passed, and a shortened lawnmower track in the flooded arena accommodated the very popular lawnmower races Saturday evening.
All in all, a Logger Days to remember.
