Heritage Museum Opening
June 4, 2012
With intermittent rain showers eventually giving way to some sunshine, the Heritage Museum held its opening day events Saturday with an assortment of activities and demonstrations. On hand were the Spinning Squares to demonstrate square dance moves in the refurbished Swamp Creek Community Hall, Patty Rambo demonstrating Native American games, Jeff Gruber narrating a DVD of a 1947 film of logging operations on Warland Creek, the Kootenai Muzzleloaders with a Living History exhibit, Bob Gray demonstrating flint knapping, gold panning, a mining exhibit demonstrating hand drilling, a rock crushing operation, Charles Robbins from Missoula demonstrating rope making, bluegrass music from the band Beyond Help, and Rick Klin with an amateur radio demonstration. Refurbished exhibits of the Libby Volunteer Fire Department, the history of buttons and children's toys were ready for opening day and on display, and the Shay engine's caretakers were on hand to explain their restoration of the workhorse locomotive. Although the weather wasn't completely cooperative, the Museum had another successful opening day. Many thanks to all the volunteers who make it happen and keep the museum the fantastic resource it is.
The museum is now open through the summer. Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is by donation.
