December events at the Libby Library

The Lincoln County Public Library in Libby will be presenting a full calendar of programs during the month of December. All events are free and open to the public.

The Lincoln County Libraries in Troy, Eureka and Libby will be closed on Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24 for Christmas.

The Lincoln County Libraries in Troy, Eureka and Libby will be closed on Saturday, December 31 for New Year’s Eve.

The Libby Friends of the Library will host its monthly book sale on Friday, December 2 from 10 until 5. All proceeds benefit the Libby Friends of the Library.

All Lincoln County residents are invited to attend a farewell party for the Lincoln County Public Libraries’ director, Sami Pierson, on Tuesday, December 6 from 3-6 at the Libby Library. Drop in, share some refreshments, and say thank you to a director who has served the community well during her tenure.

The Libby Friends of the Library will hold a meeting on Tuesday, December 6 at 6 pm. All are welcome.

The Libby Library will host after school programs on Wednesday, December 7 and Wednesday, December 14 at 4 pm. Kids and families can come to the library for a variety of programs ranging from arts and crafts to food preparation to cultural exploration.

The Libby Library presents Family Movies @ Your Library on the second Saturday of each month. This eventbegins at noon. On Saturday, December 10 the library will show the 1974 stop-motion animated film The Year Without a Santa Claus (53 minutes). This Christmas, visions of sitting by the fireside dance in Santa's head. Tired of a world where children have lost the Christmas spirit, Santa decides to sit out the Yuletide. Can Mrs. Claus and the elves convince Santa to load up his sleigh?

The libraries host one technology-related program per month in each library. In December, librarians demonstrate how to find tax forms online. The program will be held at the Libby Library on Saturday, December 10 at 2 pm, at the Eureka Library on Wednesday, December 7 at 1 pm, and at the Troy Library on Thursday, December 8 at 5:30 pm.

The Civil War film series continues on Tuesday, December 13 at 5 pm with a screening of the film Gods and Generals (2003, 218 minutes). Based on the novel by Jeff Shaara, the film chronicles the Civil War's beginnings in 1861 to the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863 and the heroes who defended their honor on both fronts.

The Libby Library will host its annual Pajama Story Hour with Santa on Wednesday, December 21 from 7 to 8 pm. During this family event, Santa will read stories and visit with the children. Other winter-themed activities and snacks will be provided. All attendees are invited to wear pajamas. In addition to Pajama Story Hour, a regular story time for children is offered every Tuesday at 10 am.

The second discussion session of the Making Sense of the American Civil War series will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 6 pm at the Libby Library. The theme for the second discussion is "Choosing Sides." Attendees are encouraged to read a selection of materials representing points of view from both sides of the Civil War, including speeches from Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Alexander Stephens and more. Copies of the book and other materials are available for check-out at the Libby Library. For more information on the program series, please call 293-2778. Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, a reading and discussion series, has been made possible through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.

The last Friday of every month is Amnesty Day at the Lincoln County Libraries. This month Amnesty Day is Friday, December 30. Any materials less than 90 days overdue which are returned in good condition to any of the three libraries on that day will have all penalties waived. Overdue interlibrary loan materials are not included.
