On August 22, a lower jawbone was found in a plastic zip lock bag, along with loose teeth, at the Trego Green Boxes and turned over to a deputy sheriff in Eureka. It was determined that the jawbone is from an adult male likely of a Chinese immigrant most likely working in the late 1800s as either a miner or on the construction of the railroad, representing remains from a historic Chinese burial.
After receiving the results from the State Crime Lab, the State Historic Preservation Office was notified and provided the Lincoln County Sheriff with burial instructions. Prior to burial, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to attempt to collect any additional remains from this case. To assist in this effort, they are asking the person who dropped off this jawbone at the Trego Green Boxes to assist in this investigation. To be clear, this is not a criminal investigation. If anyone has any information pertaining to this case, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 406-293-4112 or speak with a Sheriff’s Deputy at the Eureka office. _____________________________________________
