High fire danger at the beginning of hunting season
by U. S. Forest Service
September 1, 2011

As Northwest Montana moves closer to fall, please remember that Fire Danger is High. With hunting season and the holiday weekend upon us, as you are out recreating, please make sure you never leave your campfire unattended, and that it is completely dead out before you leave. If it is too hot to touch, it is too hot to leave.

Even if we do receive some precipitation, it takes much more than a day of rain to put an end to fire season. The abundant spring moisture has left large amounts of grass that are now curing out.

Help Smokey prevent forest fires: build safe campfires, and stay with them until they are DEAD OUT.
