September 25, 2011
Come and get it! The 6th Annual Chili Cook-Off at the Heritage Museum is this Saturday, October 1st. Gates will open at 7:30 AM and cooks will have until noon to come up with a chili concoction that will hopefully score high points with the judges. This year’s panel of judges includes Paul Bradford, Forest Supervisor, Kootenai National Forest; Julie MacDonald, Food Services Director, St. John’s Lutheran Hospital; Mark Peck, Libby Unit Manager, DNRC. Judging begins at noon and is based on presentation, aroma, consistency, flavor and aftertaste. Cash prizes of $100 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd place and $25 for 3rd place will be awarded in each category. Categories are: Texas Style - No Beans (Meat with tomato base, chilies and seasonings) and All Other Types
Sampling by the public will begin at 1 PM. For $4.00 you can purchase a sampling "kit" with enough sampling cups for each chili, cornbread, and a ballot for voting for your favorite. The "People’s Choice" will receive a special award.
Lee Tonner and friends of "Beyond Help" will provide music starting at 11:30. Desserts will also be for sale in the cookhouse, so you can top off your chili with a piece of pie or cake, or eat dessert first!
Entries are due by Wednesday, September 28th. Entry forms can be found at the Libby Library, Libby Chamber of Commerce and on the museum’s website: www.libbyheritagemuseum.org. The fee is $5 per entry.
