Kootenai River / Koocanusa Reservoir / Libby Dam Update –August 26, 2011

Current Koocanusa Reservoir inflow is ~ 8.30 kcfs.
Current Koocanusa Reservoir elevation is 2449.30’.
Koocanusa Reservoir reached peak elevation of 2453.30’ on Thursday, 04 August.
Depending on inflows, Koocanusa Reservoir elevation at the end of September will likely be 2445-2450’.
Current Libby Dam outflow is ~ 14.6 kcfs.
The following Libby Dam outflow reductions have been scheduled for August:
• Friday, 26 August at 2200 MDT: 14.6 kcfs to 14.0 kcfs
• Monday, 29 August from 2200-2300 MDT: 14.0 kcfs to 12.0 kcfs
• Tuesday, 30 August from 2200-2300 MDT: 12.0 kcfs to 10.0 kcfs
• Wednesday, 31 August at 2200 MDT: 10.0 kcfs to 9.0 kcfs
These outflow reductions are to meet the objective of providing an average outflow from Libby Dam of 14.0 kcfs/day (or a volume of 472 KAF) between 15 August and 31 August as coordinated at the 03 August Technical Management Team meeting (TMT; http://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/tmt/).
The following Libby Dam outflow reductions have been scheduled for September:
• Thursday, 1 September from 2200-2300 MDT: 9.0 kcfs to 8.0 kcfs
• Friday, 2 September at 2200 MDT: 8.0 kcfs to 7.5 kcfs
• Saturday, 3 September at 2200 MDT: 7.5 kcfs to 7.0 kcfs
• Sunday, 4 September at 2200 MDT: 7.0 kcfs to 6.5 kcfs
• Monday, 5 September at 2200 MDT: 6.5 kcfs to 6.0 kcfs
Libby Dam outflow will then remain at 6.0 kcfs through the end of September to help facilitate the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho's System Operation Request (SOR; http://www.nwd-wc.usace.army.mil/tmt/sor/2011/SOR_2011-04.pdf) for low flows in September and October to enable implementation of Phase 1a and 1b of the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration project near Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
