There have been about two dozen fires on the Kootenai National Forest so far this season, according to the Forest. The largest was about 18 acres, while most where much smaller. So far the fire crews have been successful in putting them down quickly. The warmer weather has prompted the Forest Service to elevate the fire danger to HIGH as the creek and valley bottoms begin drying out.
