Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking comment on proposed fishing regulation changes for 2012-15. The changes, which would go into effect March 1, 2012, include regulations in the Western, Central, and Eastern fishing districts.
Region 1 Fisheries will hold an open house on Tentative Fishing Regulations for 2012-2015 at FWP Kalispell Headquarters from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, August 29. The fishing regulations meeting will be held in conjunction with the open house for hunting regulations also held Monday August 29, 7-9 p.m. at FWP Headquarters on North Meridian Road.
The tentative regulations were adopted by the Montana Fish, Wildlife& Parks Commission on August 18 after many months of public scoping, comments, and data analysis. The tentative regulations are on line on the FWP website or copies are available at the FWP Headquarters in Kalispell. Public comment will be accepted on the tentative regulations through September 19 at 5 p.m.
Some of the major changes proposed for northwest Montana include a major reduction in the rainbow trout season and daily limit downstream from Libby Dam, allowing only 2 kokanee over 12" per day as part of the 20-fish limit for Little Bitterroot Lake and changing the bull trout fishing in Lake Koocanusa and Swan Lake to catch and release only. For specifics on these changes contact Fisheries Manager Jim Vashro at 751-4550.
Details on the proposed changes, and opportunities to comment, are available for review on the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov. Click "Proposed Fishing Regulation Changes". Comments must be received by September 19. Send comments by mail to: 2012-15 Fishing Regulations; FWP Fisheries Bureau, P.O. Box 200701; Helena, MT 59601.
The FWP Commission will take final action on the proposals on October 13 in Helena.
