Monday, (7/25/11) at approximately 11:55 a.m. a two vehicle crash occurred on Highway #2 near C and R Auto causing injury to two Libby residents, Patrick Faulkner, 16 years old, and Robert Adkison, 65.
Faulkner was traveling east on Highway 2 and Adkison was traveling toward Libby. Near milepost 38, Faulkner gradually drifted completely into the wrong lane of traffic. Two westbound motorists narrowly missed this vehicle by taking evasive actions to the left and to the right as the car continued east in the wrong lane of traffic. At this point, the car entered a section of highway bordered on both sides by a guardrail which prevented Adkison's pickup from making an evasive maneuver. The two struck head-on causing full road blockage and closure of Highway 2 for approximately 45 minutes.
Faulkner was immediately transported to Kalispell Regional Hospital by ALERT Helicopter. Adkison was transported and treated at St. Johns Hospital in Libby. Faulkner's condition remains unknown.
Speed and alcohol were not factors in this crash and is consistent with a driver falling asleep when driving or distracted. Both drivers were using seatbelts.
The investigation continues. _____________________________________________
