Libby teens competing in quest for Logger Days Royalty

Five Libby girls are in the running for the title of 2011 Logger Days Queen, while two boys are vying to be Libby’s Logger Days King.

Miranda Raab, Kyla O’Brien, Chelsea Bowe, Kaya Hardgrove and Sandra Sanderson are running for Logger Days Queen, and Robin Kyes and Dylan Berget are running Logger Days King. The candidates are selling admissions buttons and raffle tickets in their quest. Buttons are $5 in advance from one of the candidates, or $10 at the gate. Raffle tickets for a Polaris Sportsman 500 all-terrain vehicle are $10 each.

Logger Days will be held June 23-26 at J. Neils Park. Along with a carnival and traditional logging events, this year’s celebration will include a boxing smoker at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23.

A look at each of the Logger Days royalty candidates follows:

Miranda Raab
Miranda is a 2011 graduate of Libby High School. She is the daughter of Monica Raab. At LHS, Miranda competed in speech and drama, sang in the choir and was a member of the cheerleading squad, Business Professionals of America and Student Council. She also volunteers at KJRZ 105.3 FM radio station, where she started the "Music Revolution" program. This fall, Miranda will be enrolling at Corbin University in Salem, Ore., where she plans to major in pre-medicine.

Kyla O’Brien
A senior next fall at Libby High School, Kyla is the daughter of Linda and Rick O’Brien. She’s been involved in Logger tennis since her freshman year and is a member of National Honor Society. Kyla plans to stay in Montana for college and is considering a career as a teacher.

Chelsea Bowe
Chelsea will be a senior in the fall at LHS. She is the daughter of April and Roby Bowe. Chelsea is a member of the Logger volleyball and track teams, National Honor Society and Close Up. She works at Shoes and Socks and plans to attend Montana State University and major in cell biology.

Kaya Hardgrove
The daughter of Erica Hardgrove, Kaya will be a junior at LHS this fall. She participates in cheerleading and tennis, volunteers at the Heritage Museum and with the Lincoln County Junior Fair, and works at Alpha Pets. Kaya plans to attend dog grooming school in New York after graduation, and after that would like to be an elementary teacher.

Sandra Sanderson
A junior this fall at LHS, Sandra is the daughter of Cindy Smith and Kevin Sanderson. She plays basketball and volunteers at Libby Christian Church. Sandra is planning to attend the University of Montana to become a pharmacy technician.

Robin Kyes
Robin is the son of Frank and Penny Kyes. He will be a senior this fall at LHS, where he is captain of the wrestling team and a member of the football and track teams and Close Up. He’s an active member of Libby Volunteer Ambulance’s junior program and enjoys hunting and fishing. Robin hopes to pursue a career in wildlife biology and come back to the Libby area to work.

Dylan Berget
A senior this fall at LHS, Dylan is the son of Tony and Deanna Berget. He is a member of the Logger wrestling, track, football and cross country teams and also participates in band, Business Professionals of America, Close Up and student government, where he serves as class president. Dylan is also a member of the Libby Loggers American Legion baseball team and is working on his Eagle Scout project. He’s thinking about pursuing a degree in finance and law.
