Flood Warning for Fisher River near Libby
June 8, 2011
The National Weather Service in Missoula has issued a Flood Warning for the Fisher River near Libby until further notice. At 10:45AM Wednesday, June 8, the stage was 6.2 feet. Flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 7.5 feet.
The river is expected to rise above flood stage on Friday, with additional rises possible. At 7.5 feet flooding affects low lying areas adjacent to the river. Flooding also causes minor washouts along Fisher River Road.
"Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road. When encountering flooded roads, make the smart choice, turn around, don’t drown," the National Weather Service alert said.
