Libby Dam Flow Update - May 10, 2011
by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Libby Dam
May 12, 2011
Current Libby Dam outflow is ~20.0 kcfs.
This outflow is currently projected to remain the same through the weekend, but we are continually monitoring inflows into Lake Koocanusa and flows at Bonners Ferry. This release may be revised before then to meet refill targets and provide local flood control.
Current Koocanusa Reservoir elevation is 2338.3 feet.
We are targeting a reservoir elevation of ~2333 feet by the middle of May, which is when we expect to begin refill.
The ICF (Initial Controlled Flow) Date was declared as May 17th with a flow of 439.6 kcfs at the Dalles. Koocanusa Reservoir's official start of refill, used for VarQ calculation, is the ICF Date minus ten days, May 7th. Our May water supply forecast was 8165 KAF, which set our May elevation required for the VarQ calculation at an elevation of 2287', 51' below current elevation. These numbers were used to set the official May VarQ flow to 12.0 kcfs.
