The National Weather Service in Missoula has extended the Flood Advisory until further notice for rain and melting snow in Lincoln County in northwest Montana. The advisory also includes Flathead County in northwest Montana, Lake County in northwest Montana, Sanders County in northwest Montana, and Mineral County in west-central Montana.
The National Weather Service in Missoula has continued a Flood Warning for the Yaak River near Troy in northwestern Lincoln County until further notice. At 6:45AM Wednesday (May 25) the stage was 7.9 feet. Moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 8.0 feet. At 8.5 feet flooding affects low-lying areas adjacent to the river including homes and access roads. Sylvanite Ranger Station Road and Upper Ford Road affected by flooding.
Small streams across the region will continue to rise due to recent rainfall and continued snowmelt. Additionally, a very moist weather system moving into the region tonight and into Thursday will produce moderate to heavy rainfall which will add additional runoff to already swollen streams and rivers.
Flooding of low-lying areas and roads along stream channels will be enhanced by the addition of more runoff. Also, the threat for roc and landslides exists in steeper terrain areas as rainfall continues to saturate already moist soils.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
