A former KLCB announcer and Portland radio journalist Heidi Tauber died Wednesday evening March 23 in a head-on crash between her 2007 Mazda CX7 and a tractor-trailer pulling two trailers.
Heidi Tauber-Esping, 52, who currently worked for Oregon Public Broadcasting, was southbound in the northbound lanes of the Hwy 30 exit from I-405 Wednesday evening, said Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Tauber likely died on impact, according to Simpson.
"How sad. What a great voice", said Duane Williams, owner of KLCB and KTNY, Libby who hired Heidi in the late 1970's and where Heidi started. "This is so sad!!!! That great voice silent. She knew how to use it", he said. "She will be missed in the Portland market", Williams said. "She was well loved, and an institution there."
Heidi graduated from Libby High School, where she was a cheerleader. Then she went on to the University of Montana.
The driver of the semi was not hurt. His passenger went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
During her career, Heidi Tauber spent more than two decades working for radio stations in around Portland including KEX, KPOJ, KTIL, KIMA, and co-hosted a local program with Thom Hartmann.
Services are scheduled for April 16th. Details are not available. _______________________________________________
