According to Roby Bowe, Lincoln County Sheriff, a snowmobiler from Newman Lake, Washington is dead following an accident on Sunday, February 27th, in Lincoln County.
Ronda Jo Emerson, 41, was snowmobiling near Florence Lake in the Spread Creek drainage northwest of Libby. Emerson, reportedly, went over an 800 foot embankment and struck a tree head on and was pinned between it and the snowmobile at about 1:30 P.M. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office received the 911 call for assistance at 3:53 P.M. David Thompson Search and Rescue was paged out for the incident at about 4:00 P.M.
Emerson was treated at the scene of the crash and extricated by the search and rescue responders. She was taken to St. John's Hospital by Troy Volunteer Ambulance, where she died.
Twenty six responders were involved in the rescue effort including Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, David Thompson Search and Rescue, Libby Volunteer Ambulance, Troy Volunteer Ambulance, United States Corp of Engineers (Libby Dam) and several individual volunteers. _______________________________________________
