Loggers honored at activities assembly

Libby High School students were honored for achievements in athletics and other extracurricular activities during the school’s winter awards assembly last Tuesday night.

Five Logger student athletes received academic all-state honors, recognizing a grade point average of at least 3.5 along with a varsity letter: Garrett Craig for boys’ basketball, Taylor Barton and Jaime Gilden for girls’ basketball, Josh Bowers for wrestling and Jessica Broderick for speech and drama.

For girls’ basketball, Gilden received first-team all-conference and all-state honors, and Alysha Martin was named second-team all-conference.

Gilden was also named the varsity team’s most valuable player. Ashley Shaw was named most inspirational, and Logan Best was named most improved.

Alyssa Walker was selected as the junior varsity team’s MVP, Myka Forster was named most inspirational and Kaitlyn Gilder was named most improved.

Three Libby boys’ basketball players received all-conference honors. Kelly May was named second-team all-conference, and Alex Cislo and Garrett Craig were honorable mentions.

May was honored as the varsity team’s MVP. Alex Cislo was named most inspirational, and James Hare was picked as most improved.

For the JV team, Jared Winslow was named MVP, Christian Hubard was picked as most inspirational and Kraig Nelson was selected as most improved. For the froshmore team, Nic Robertson was named MVP, Lane Luscher most inspirational and Dalton Brown most improved.

Jason Schikora was honored as the Logger speech and drama team’s MVP. Jolee Holder was named most inspirational, Jessica Broderick most improved, and Hannah Payne rookie of the year.

Shelby Murer was picked as the cheerleading squad’s MVP, Jesamin Huff was named most inspirational, and Shayna Hubbard was named most improved.

Kyle Leir, who won the state championship at 140 pounds, was named the Greenchain wrestling team’s MVP. Kody Berget was named most inspirational, and Dylan Berget was most improved.

White Star awards from the Elks lodge, recognizing winners of nine varsity letters, went to Cree Maloney for soccer, basketball and tennis and Alex Cislo for football, basketball and tennis.

Also honored at the awards assembly were members of the Logger pep band, who received letters and numerals for their participation.
