Forest Plan Revision updates available
by Kootenai and Idaho Panhandle National Forests
March 11, 2011
The Kootenai and Idaho Panhandle National Forests planning zone (KIPZ) have released an update on the Forest Plan Revision efforts. Last March, the Forests published a Notice of Intent (NOI) in the Federal Register to proceed with land management planning, electing to use the 1982 provisions to prepare a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). Separate draft Forest Plans and DEISs are being prepared for each Forest.
The draft Plans and the DEISs are expected to be available later this spring and will be followed by a 90-day public comment period. Upon publication, they will be hosting open houses throughout the planning zone. They look forward to meeting with the public and hearing feedback.
In preparation of release of their draft Plans and DEISs, the Forests hope to reduce copying and mailing costs and increase the use of electronic media to keep the public informed about the Forest Plan revision process. They have a form for interested public to specify the format in which they would like to receive the forest planning documents. They would also like to update mailing and/or email addresses, if it has changed.
Forms should be returned by March 31, 2011.
