First Presbyterian Church to close

The oldest church in Libby will close its doors after services this Sunday. The First Presbyterian Church in Libby has been here since 1896. The current building on Mahoney Road was built in 1975.

The membership will be automatically transferred to the Kalispell congregation. The Kalispell church will provide a pastor to serve communion periodically in Libby. The Bible Study will continue to meet.

The congregation has dwindled to 9 to 10 full-time, participating members. When the pastor retired the end of last year the membership felt they could not financially call another, and could not maintain the building any longer.

Another piece of Libby history disappearing.
