A local man was detained, questioned and later released by local law enforcement authorities after a shooting early Sunday at a residence south of Libby sent a Washington man to the hospital.
The county’s 911 dispatcher received a call at 3:10 a.m. Sunday that Scott Haskins, age 38, of Olympia, Wash., had been shot by Conrad Budd, 69, of Libby, Sheriff Roby Bowe said Monday. County deputies responded and controlled the scene while volunteers from Fisher River Valley Fire-Rescue administered aid to Haskins. A medical evacuation helicopter arrived and airlifted Haskins to the hospital, where he was in stable condition after being treated for a single gunshot wound to the upper back, Bowe said.
According to Bowe, witnesses reported that there had been an argument and a brief altercation between Haskins and Budd at Budd’s residence prior to the shooting. Haskins was apparently trying to re-enter the residence after being told to leave when Budd fired one round from a handgun, Bowe said.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. ________________________________________
