There is a "Phishing" scam circulating in Lincoln County. Phishing spelled with a "ph".
The intent is to obtain account information from depositors of Lincoln County Credit Union.
The automated telephone call tells depositors their Credit Union Debit Card has be "deactivated" and if you want it reactivated to key-in your account number, expiration date, and security code number on the card. With the information the scammers could drain your account.
The calls are being made to Verizon cell customers.
John Graham of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office advises if you get one of these calls just hang up. Do not key-in any information. Call the Lincoln County Credit Union and the Sheriff's Office.
Chari Lucas, President of the Credit Union, said LCCU never uses automated systems to contact members. Should you receive a call and have given out any information contact the credit union at 406-293-7771 immediately, she advises. Unfortunately these scams have become quite common - protect your identity by never giving out account information to an unknown source, said Lucas.
So far all the calls appear to involve the credit union, but other banking institutions may be involved. _______________________________________________
