Workers at Stinger Welding’s Libby plant are keeping busy with bridge projects as construction crews move ahead with the erection of a 100,000 square foot building that will be the company’s permanent home.
Stinger’s local employees, currently numbering around three dozen, are continuing to fabricate sections for the Spokane Street viaduct in Seattle, Wash., which will be pre-assembled in Libby before being disassembled for shipping and put back together in Seattle.
The local plant recently shipped out a bridge for the National Bison Range and is working on a pedestrian bridge bound for Pablo.
Stinger is also bidding on numerous other projects throughout the Northwest, said human resources manager Duke Brown.
"There’s nothing I can officially say yet, but there’s a lot of stuff out there – a lot of stuff in the works," Brown said.
Contractors working on construction of Stinger’s new building finished pouring concrete for the massive slab last week while other crews continued work on the building’s steel framework. The Sowles Co. of Billings is the steel contractor, and Bison Building Systems of Kalispell is the contractor for concrete work.
Concrete workers were scheduled this week to pour the slab for a 4,000 square foot addition to the main building that will house company offices.
"We’re still looking at probably a February completion date," said Kootenai River Development Council director Paul Rumelhart. "There’s just a lot of work to do. This is a huge building."
KRDC manages the Kootenai Business Park site where Stinger’s local operations are located. Until the new building is completed, the company is working in and around the business park’s old central maintenance building. Based in Coolidge, Ariz., Stinger plans to employ around 200 people at the Libby plant following construction of the new building. ________________________________________
