Kootenai River Rodeo
Fabulous Fifties/Rodeo Parade
August 1, 2010
It was a perfect weekend for the seventh annual Kootenai River Rodeo at J. Neils Park, co-hosted by the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce and Montanore Minerals Corporation. The rodeo is a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) event, meaning that the cowboys competing in the rodeo are some of the top competitors in the Montana circuit.
JJ Harrison returned for the second year as the rodeo clown, and he entertained like nobody else can with his quick wit and wild antics. The rodeo's PRCA bullfighter was Mick Thompson, who has been with the Libby rodeo from the beginning. The announcer this year was Brent Jordan, new to Libby's rodeo but a PRCA pro. Providing post-rodeo music both nights was the Thomas Brothers Band.
Rodeo queen competitors this year were Skyanne Cosgriff and Darbi Brooks. To begin Friday night's events, 2009 Queen Chancey Auge crowned Darbi as the 2010 Rodeo Queen.
Saturday morning's weather cleared off just in time for the Fabulous Fifties/Rodeo parade on Mineral Avenue. Libby High School's classes of the 1950s and 1960 held a joint reunion over the weekend as well, and joined with the rodeo to form a small parade in downtown Libby. Afterward, rodeo personnel set up at Timberline Auto to meet with the public.
Many thanks go to all who made the weekend of rodeo and reunion fun possible.
