Logger athletes honored at assembly

Libby High School students were honored for their achievements in athletics and other extracurricular activities last Tuesday night during the school’s annual spring awards assembly.

The Logger tennis program ended the season with 40 players – the biggest turnout in years, noted coach Kyle Hannah – and winning records for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.

Cree Maloney was named boys’ most valuable and most inspirational player while T.J. Benson was named most improved. Jackie Mee was both most valuable and most inspirational for the girls, and Chelsea Oedewaldt was named most improved.

Maloney was divisional singles champion and finished sixth at state. Benson and Alex Cislo took second in doubles at divisionals and were third at state. Mee took first in girls’ singles at divisionals and third at state, and Audra Poppen and Anna Valentine won the doubles championship at divisionals.

For the Logger boys’ track team, Kody Berget was the high point award winner, Tyler Troy was most improved and Sean Lundin was most inspirational. Chancey Auge was the girls’ high point winner while Chelsea Bowe was most improved and Katie Emery was most inspirational.

All-conference awards for the boys’ team went to Sawyer Zimmerman for shot put; Tyler Troy for triple jump and long jump; the 300 hurdles, and the 1600 relay; Kody Berget for the 200 and 400, the 110 and 300 hurdles, and the 400 relay; Jacob Thomas for the 3200; Dietrich Coleman for the 400 and 1600 relays; Dean Willey for long jump and the 400 relay; Colby Rybar for the 1600 relay; Dylan Berget for the 1600 relay; Nate Hutchison for pole vault; and Kelly May and James Nash for javelin.

Girls’ all-conference awards went to Erin Baker for discus, javelin and shot put; Kaila Forster for the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump; Katie Emery for shot put; Jenny Johnson for long jump, pole vault and the 400 and 1600 relays; Nikola Falk for the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs and the 400 and 1600 relays; Chancey Auge for high jump and the 400 relay; Mara Petermann for the 400 and 1600 relays; and Chelsea Bowe for the 1600 relay.

All-state awards went to Kody Berget for the 300 hurdles, Tyler Troy for the long jump and Chancey Auge for the high jump.

The Lady Logger softball team recovered from a slow start to finish second at divisionals and ended the season with a 2-2 showing at the state tournament. For the varsity team, Alysha Martin was named MVP, LaRona Luscher was named most inspirational and Stacey Oedewaldt was named most improved. Oedewaldt was also named the junior varsity team’s most valuable and most inspirational player, while Danielle Faris was named the JV team’s most improved player.

All-conference recognition went to Lexi Hageness, second team catcher; LaRona Luscher, honorable mention infield; Alyssa Walker, second team utility; Jaime Gilden, first team outfield; and Alysha Martin, first team infield. Martin was also named to the all-state team.

For the LHS choir, Jessica Broderick was honored as most valuable member while Paige Bothman was named most valuable for the Cabinet Mountain Singers. Broderick and Lindsey Kehn received awards for piano accompaniment, and Kehn also received a national choral award. Josh Broderick, Jason Schikora and Kaleb Wilson received all-state choir honors.

Also honored at the awards assembly was the executive board of the LHS Student Council, consisting of Levi Neubauer, president; Kayla Bryant, vice president; Jackie Mee, secretary; Lindsey Kehn, treasurer; and LaRona Luscher, school board representative.
