Trip notes and pictures by Bob Hosea

Bob Hosea hiked to Bramlet Lake in the Cabinet Mountains on Sunday, June 13th. "I couldn’t believe the lake was still frozen," he said.
Here are his notes from the trip. See the end of this article for a link to his YouTube video of his hike.
BRAMLET LAKE HIKE - Sunday, June 13, 2010 =================================== "To get to the Bramlet Lake trailhead #658, drive south from Libby on Highway #2 and then turn on to the West Fisher Creek Road #231. From there follow the signs to get to the Lake Creek campground. Just before you enter the campground, turn to the right onto road #2332. Follow this road for a few miles until you come to a gate across the road. The trailhead is on an old road just above the gated road.
The first part of the trail to the lake is new, which is due to the old trail system crossing over private property. There are many trail markers along the new trail section to help show you the way. Don't be alarmed if you notice that right after you start hiking that you are actually heading in the exact opposite direction that you need to be going. Eventually, you will come across a trial marker that tells you that the opposite direction was indeed the right way to go. After a while the new trail section will meet up with the original trail once you have navigated around the private property.
The trail was in good shape with only a few trees across it. I started getting into snow about half way to the lake. The snow was firm and I was able to walk on top of it.
I didn't see any wildlife on the trip, but there were many wildflowers along the trail which included Western Wake Robin, Yellow Violets and Dwarf Hesperochiron. I also saw many birds including some Western Tanagers. There were many deer, moose and bear tracks on the trail.
The hike to the lake is just over two miles with an elevation gain of 1200 feet. The lake was still frozen and there are many small streams running into the lake and also down the trail.
The wood-tick count for this hike was zero, but there were a few biting flies and mosquitoes.
There were two people camping at the lake when I arrived, and according to the sign-in cards, there were two other day hikers the day before."
