Bob Hosea went on a hike to Rock Lake on Thursday, May 13th. Rock Lake is at the southern end of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness.
"The road to the trailhead is in great shape and there wasn't any snow on the road. I didn't see any people on the trip, but according to the sign-in cards at the trailhead there have been a couple of hikers to Rock Creek Meadows and one person who went up near the lake. The trail to the lake was in great shape with only a few trees across the trail. There are many areas where water is running down the trail and there are two creeks that have to be crossed that do not have bridges over them. There wasn't any snow at all down low around Rock Creek Meadows, and I didn't get into any serious snow until I got up near the lake. The snow around the lake was very soft and deep and snowshoes really helped out. The snow around the lake and on the hillsides is really dirty. Most likely from the dust storm that blew through the area a few weeks ago. There are a lot of wood-ticks out and I found a total of ten ticks on me during the hike. The only wildlife I saw were grouse. The views along the trail are great and with all of the snow melting there are many, many waterfalls running down the hillsides."
