Cabinet View Fire Department is reaching out to the community with a fundraising campaign that will be highlighted by an open house and telethon Saturday, May 15, at the fire hall along Luscher Drive off Farm to Market Road.

The campaign aims to raise funds to help the department bring water and sewer service to the fire hall and complete the facility’s kitchen and shower facilities, said department treasurer Blanche Hudson.

The open house and telethon will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with KLCB radio’s Duane Williams broadcasting live from the fire hall. Frontier Communications will be putting in extra phone lines for the event so people won’t get a busy signal when they call to make a donation.

The event will include a visit from Smokey Bear, face painting and fire safety handouts for children. Kids of all ages can meet with some of the department’s 20 volunteer firefighters, tour the fire station and get a close-up look at the department’s six trucks.

"It’s just a fun day to come out and meet all our firefighters," Hudson said.

The fundraising campaign is focused on a theme of "going the extra mile," Hudson said. Five dollars will buy "one foot," and if enough donations are generated to make up a mile, the department will meet its goal.

In addition to the open house, recent fundraising events have included a car wash and a rummage sale. On Saturday, May 8, firefighters will be at Rosauers from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to read to children and talk about fire safety while accepting donations from anyone who would like to help.

Cabinet View’s service area covers 15 square miles south of Libby. In addition to Hudson, board members include president Bill Clark, vice president Robert Mast and secretary Betty Troyer.
