Pipe Creek Restoration
FWP makes decision on Lower Pipe Creek restoration project
by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
March 25, 2010

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the Lower Pipe Creek Restoration Project. The purpose of the project is to improve fisheries habitat, stabilize stream banks, and restore a healthy riparian community on lower Pipe Creek. The location of the project is approximately two miles northwest of Libby, Montana, in Lincoln County (T31N, R31W, S29 & 30).

Based on the comments received and the urgent need to restore aquatic habitat in lower Pipe Creek, it is recommended that the proposed project be implemented. FWP has decided to implement this restoration project in two phases. The first phase will occur in the upper half of the project area in 2010, and the second phase will occur in the lower half of the project area in 2011. Phased implementation of this project will not change the scope or the predicted impacts that were described in the draft EA. Therefore, the draft EA together with the decision notice will be considered the final document for this project.

Copies of the decision notice are available at FWP headquarters, 490 N Meridian, Kalispell; Montana State Library, 1515 E 6th Ave., Helena; Lincoln County Libraries – 220 W 6th, Libby; 318 Dewey Ave., Eureka; and 207 N 3rd, Troy; and the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov under Lower Pipe Creek Restoration Project Public Notice.
