The local political arena is already beginning to warm-up with the filing of two local candidates for the House Seats District One and Two.

Eileen Carney, former State Representative, has filed for District One. Carney was originally elected to the legislature in 2000. She has served on Taxation, Local Government, Telecommunications and Federal Relations committees.

Carney came to Libby in 1975 to teach Spanish, French, and English at Libby High School. She is a third generation Montanan, born in Huntley, graduating from Billings Central High school, and Carroll College.

Local Yaak businessman, outfitter and guide Tim Linehan has filed as a candidate for House District 2.

This will not be Linehan's first rodeo, Linehan ran unsuccessfully in HD2 challenging incumbent Chas Vincent.

"Trying to unseat an incumbent is always very difficult," Linehan said. "But I ran a solid campaign and actually did much better than anticipated."

An outfitter and guide, Linehan says, "Your guns and second amendment rights will unequivocally be protected if I'm in office."

Linehan graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1984. He has lived in Yaak for over twenty years and has owned and operated Linehan Outfitting Company with his wife Joanne since 1992.

Both Carney and Linehan place priority on small business.

Linehan insists it's possible to reduce the state business tax in order to help small businesses become more profitable and stable. "The vast majority of Montana's workforce is from small and family-owned businesses," Linehan said. "I believe it's the state's solemn duty to allow Montana's small businesses to operate with as little government interference as possible."

Carney said, "Our greatest concern is the economy. We need to protect small business because they provide most of our employment."

"They are much more reliable than large business," she said, "because they won't pick up and run when profits aren't quite high enough."
