Libby plans to install two traffic cameras by Duane Williams, KLCB 1230 AM Libby News Radio January 15, 2010 According to Mayor Doug Roll, addressing the Libby Area Chamber of Commerce with the annual State of the City address, Roll said the City is planning two very high resolution traffic cameras. one at the north end of Mineral Avenue and one at the South end. Roll said the action is in response to the rash of window breakage downtown, especially at Timberline Auto Center, where the damage cost $9000 to repair. Speaking with several members of the council, KLCB found, none of them were aware of the proposal despite the fact that a security company from Whitefish has designed the system ready for install. Roll said he is not sure how the some $40,000 to fund the project will be raised. Roll said the City does not have the money. The County has offered to put up part. And Roll said the businesses or property owners downtown would be asked to make up the remaining amount. Roll said it would probably be on a one third each basis between the City, County, and Mineral Avenue property owners. That concerned several of the businesses represented at the meeting. The $40,000 is the economy system, according to Roll.
