September 17, 2009
Two fires were discovered Tuesday, September 15, on the Kootenai Forest. The Skyline Fire and the Mt. Baldy Fire are holdover fires from the lightning storms earlier this month.
The Skyline Fire is estimated to be about five acres and the Mt. Baldy Fire is estimated to be about two acres. Both fires are located on the Three Rivers Ranger District in Troy. Fire retardant was used on both fires yesterday to slow their progress. Both fires are currently staffed and initial attack has been successful to date.
Smoke in the area is coming from the Lawrence Mountain fire, which continues to be managed under a confine strategy, is estimated at 500 acres.
To date, the Kootenai National Forest has had 169 fires that have burned a total of 610 acres.
Please contact the Three Rivers Ranger District at 406-295-4693 with any questions.
