FWP makes decision on Crystal Lakes Diversion Fish Screen Project
by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks
September 23, 2009
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP), Region One, has completed an environmental assessment (EA) for the purpose of reducing fish loss on the Crystal Lakes irrigation diversion located on Deep Creek (T35N, R25W, S20) in Lincoln County, Montana, by installing a fish screen. No comments were received during a 30-day public review of the draft EA. Based on the lack of comment and due to the urgent need to reduce native salmonid entrainment and mortality associated with the inadequately screened irrigation diversion, it is recommended that the proposed project be implemented. No changes were made to the draft EA; therefore, the draft together with the decision notice will become the final document. Copies of the decision notice are available at FWP headquarters, 490 N Meridian, Kalispell; Montana State Library, 1515 E 6th Ave., Helena; the Lincoln County Libraries - 220 W 6th, Libby/318 Dewey Ave., Eureka/207 N 3rd, Troy; and the FWP web site at http://fwp.mt.gov/publicnotices.
